Three years after the last time Fabio Fognini come back to win a match at Wimbledon. The Ligurian, in his 14th participation in the Championships, beat the French lucky loser Luca on his debut From AsscheNo. 104 in the world, with a clear 6-1, 6-3, 7-5 in two hours and four minutes of play. A debut to be framed for Fognini who played a practically perfect match (42 winners on the scoresheet), suffering a small decline only at the end of the third set. Ahead by a break, Fabio lost serve in the eighth game, but did well to react immediately with a new break lead in the eleventh game, which was decisive for the final result. Fognini hadn’t won a match at Wimbledon since June 30, 2021when he beat Serbian Laslo Djere in three sets in the 2nd round. 1097 days have passed since then.

Fognini will play in the second round against the Norwegian Casper Ruud, n. 8 in the world, who beat the Australian Alex Bolt, coming from the qualifiers, in three sets.
