Hamilton snubs Le Mans and explains why he has “zero interest” in other categories

Why will we never see Lewis Hamilton at the 24H of Le Mans? The Mercedes driver has a very specific reason.

Will we ever see Lewis Hamilton race at the 24H of Le Mans? While Ferrari won for the second year in a row, world champion Mercedes does not seem very interested in the Endurance category.

The #50 car driven by Nicklas Nielsen, Antonio Fuoco and Miguel Molina crossed the finish line more than 14 seconds ahead of Toyota. In third position (which had instead won last year) the other single-seater of Antonio Giovinazzi, James Calado and Alessandro Pier Guidi.

Unlike several Formula 1 drivers who have expressed their desire to race at Le Mans (including Charles Leclerc, his future teammate at Ferrari), Lewis Hamilton has not “no interest in engaging in other types of racing”. These were his words in October 2017.

“By the time I stop it may be thirty years since I ran non-stop. Any other category is a step lower. There isn’t another series in motorsport that interests me, and that’s a shame.” He admitted.

“I wish I had more passion for IndyCar or Le Mans. But there is zero, absolutely nothing.” Hamilton then confided that he was more interested in dealing with things beyond the world of motors.

SIR has anyway expressed great admiration for those drivers like Fernando Alonso that have experimented with other categories. “Obviously I have a lot of opportunities to do these things, but I’m not going to go there and do anything serious.”

The seven-time world champion said that his whole life has been entirely “dedicated to car racing”, so it will be difficult to see him play another sport he enjoys on a professional level – and he gave the example of the NBA.
