The first piece for the 2024/2025 sports season of Pallavolo San Giorgio is the confirmation of the head coach. At the helm of the technical staff that will take part in the B1 series championship for the first time there will still be coach Matteo Capra, the coach of the historic promotion will lead the first yellow-white-blue team. For coach Capra it is the seventh season at the helm of Pallavolo San Giorgio Piacentino.
Born in Piacenza in 1973, he took his first steps at Rebecchi Rivergaro where he coached the youth sector (from 2001 to 2012). He later coached Steltom Piacenza in both the men’s and women’s sectors, leading the latter to promotion to Serie C.
In the 2017/2018 season he coached Volleyball Pontenure to conquer the D series and in 2018/2019 Nure Volley after the collaboration agreement with Pallavolo San Giorgio to the historic promotion to B2 in May 2019. Since the following season he has been the coach of Piacenza team in Serie B2 where in five seasons they won the promotion playoffs for B1 three times in 2021, 2023 and achieved promotion in 2024, after finishing the group in first place, and having won the final promotion against San Damaso. In the last championship he also coached the Under 18/Under 16 youth group, winning a third place for the Under 18s and the territorial title in the Under 16s and also next season he will lead both teams in the Fipav Piacenza youth tournaments.
“We continue with coach Capra after the deserved promotion to B1. I try to interpret everyone’s thoughts if I say that a coach so prepared, competent and capable of motivating the team in difficult moments is very difficult to find. Furthermore, I can say that now after all these years spent together we can consider ourselves like family. The understanding between him and our sporting director Massimo Gregori is perfect and in harmony given his past as coach of the sporting director and therefore having reconfirmed him, as well as giving him trust, I also wanted to give a continuous signal of familiarity which Sangiorgio has never lacked in volleyball”.
