“I didn’t expect it like this”

Despite having retired from tennis for two years now, Roger Federer he still remains one of the most influential and loved sporting figures in the world today. The fans always remember with great wonder his exploits, which made them fall in love with this wonderful sport.

The Swiss champion, with his documentary “Roger Federer Twelwe final days” (visible on the Prime Video platform), wanted to pay homage to his fans of the final moments of his career at the Laver Cup, 2022 edition, in which he bid farewell to official competitions.

In an interview given to El País, the 20-time Slam champion recounted the sensations that enveloped him in the last moments he experienced before officially hanging up his racket: It’s an incredible feeling, like you’re at some sort of funeral of your own life.

It’s a very strange feeling, to be honest.

You are completely alert and you are in a big slow motion blur of everything that is happening. It’s like an operation: you only know what it feels like after undergoing it.

I never thought the end would be so rich in experiences.”

The former number one confessed that he didn’t expect to experience such strong emotions.

Roger thus revealed the reason that convinced him to create a documentary, to bequeathed to all those who admired him: “I thought maybe there would be that moment with the microphone, where you’re in the spotlight.

I thought something like that, that’s what I predicted, but it was much more. So I convinced myself and my team and everyone else that maybe this material was worth showing, because it was something so special, so unique and so painful, yet so good, that maybe fans would be interested.”
