Lorenzo Musetti defeated Dominik Koepfer and qualified for the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Stuttgart. The Italian tennis player was able to come back from a situation of despair against the German: after losing the first set and finding himself 5-3 down in the tie-break of the second half, the Italian reversed course and managed to impose himself on the master home with a score of 6-7(9), 7-6(5), 6-3, thus earning the right to continue their adventure on the Teutonic grass.

Lorenzo Musetti is trying to raise his game even on a surface that he traditionally doesn’t like, after dragging Novak Djokovic to the fifth set in the third round of Roland Garros. The Tuscan will have to now see with the Kazakh Alexander Bublik, who beat the Serbian Hamad Medjedovic in two sets. At stake is a place in the semi-final against whoever manages to get the better of the segment of the draw that includes Berrettini-Shapovalov and Duckworth-Shelton.

The 22 year old, currently number 30 in the world, will have to deal with the 26 year old, number 17 in the ATP ranking. The two previous ones are favorable to the Kazakh: in 2022 he won the round of 32 at Queen’s (therefore always on grass), winning the first set 6-3 and then enjoying the withdrawal of his rival; at the beginning of 2024 he prevailed 6-3, 6-7 (4), 7-5 in the quarter-finals of the Adelaide tournament (therefore on hard court). The Tuscan will try to reverse the trend.
