An intense day on Sunday on the fields of the Cuneo Country Club, with the challenge in group 1 of the men’s B2 series against the “cousins” of the Monviso Sporting Club. At the end it was a 3-3 which postponed the match to next Sunday 16 June outcome of the group after the match against another top team of the same group, CUS Torino (at Turin’s home team). Nice reaction from the Cuneo team, who found themselves 0-2 behind after the first two singles. Andrea Motta and Filippo Callerio, young representatives of Monviso, defeated Pietro Casciola and Nicolò Giordano respectively. In the next two singles came the reaction of Andrea Gola, fresh from the ITF doubles title in Caltanissetta, and Guido Giovanni Becchis, who scored against Mattia Fantolino and Alberto Velotta respectively. The doubles were also very competitive. Gola and Becchis prevailed over the strong Callerio and Motta in the tie-break match, 10-6, while Casciola and Delfino, again in the tie-break match, surrendered to Lorenzo Gallo and Velotta.

Moving on to the international scene, the Country also experienced an important week in the prestigious Avvenire tournament in Milan, under 14 ITF category. In fact, she placed two of her athletes in the women’s main draw, namely Eleonora Tranchero and the 2011 Demetra Mazzarella, who was then overcome in the 1st round. Eleonora Tranchero reached the semi-finals of both the singles and doubles of the “Consolation”, continuing the excellent form already highlighted in the international events of Pavia and Correggio: “The results of our teams and our athletes in the individual tournaments – commented President Fabrizio Drago – demonstrate the completeness of our competitive sector. A well organized sector which is the result of excellent team work.”

Let’s continue with the review of the teams involved in the weekend just ended. Great result for the men’s Over 50 who confirmed themselves as regional champions. In 2023 the Cuneo Country Club had established itself on Poggio Agrisport in Poirino. In 2024 the victory came against Verdelago Sport. The Country team appeared in the final with the teacher and player captain Alberto Bodino, with Enrici Fabrizio, Dattrino Riccardo, Beltrandi Nicola, Frizzi Carlo and Garnero Massimo. Success set at the score of 2-0 thanks to the singles won by Bodino over Rizzo, with a double 6-0, and by Dattrino over Garlaschi, with a more fought 4-6 6-4 6-3. However, the men’s D2 lost at the end of the group, but in any case managed to stay in the category. Setback also for the young D2 athletes against Poggio Agrisport of Poirino (0-3).
