The ATP rankings have been published, Jannik Sinner is officially the number 1 in world tennis. The Italian precedes the Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz who, with the victory at Roland Garros, surpasses Novak Djokovic.
In fourth place Alexander Zverev slightly precedes the Russian Daniil Medvedev. Further back, with unchanged positions, Andrey Rublev, Casper Ruud, Hubert Hurkacz, Alex de Minaur, Grigor Dimitrov.
The other Italians
There are eight Italians among the top 100 in the world. After Sinner there are Lorenzo Musetti (30), Matteo Arnaldi (34), Luciano Darderi (41), Flavio Cobolli (50), Lorenzo Sonego (58), Luca Nardi (73), Matteo Berrettini (95). Fabio Fognini leaves the top 100 (102).
Almost all the other Italians in the top 200 are growing: Stefano Napolitano, Matteo Gigante, Francesco Passaro, Giulio Zeppieri, Mattia Bellucci, Andrea Pellegrino, Francesco Maestrelli.
Paolini records
Jasmine Paolini is officially number 7 in the WTA rankings. Tuscany is the fifth Italian in history to enter the top ten.
The ranking is led by the Polish Iga Swiatek, ruler of the last year with a score currently unattainable for her pursuers. Behind her, the young American Coco Gauff who overtook the Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka by a few points.
More distant are Elena Rybakina, Jessica Pegula, Marketa Vondrousova. Paolini who climbed eight positions precedes Qinwen Zheng, Maria Sakkari, Ons Jabeur.
Leaps by Cocciaretto and Errani
Among the recovering Italians, Elisabetta Cocciaretto (+8) is now 43rd, ahead of Lucia Bronzetti 68th, Sara Errani 88th (+7) and Martina Trevisan 90th. Leaps forward Lucrezia Stefanini 153rd (+16) and Nuria Brancaccio 262nd (+15). Further back Giorgia Pedone, Silvia Ambrosio, Camilla Rosatello.
