Carlos Rodriguez wins the last stage, Roglic the general classification

Ineos Grenadiers in great form in the final stage of the Tour of the Dauphiné 2024 and, at Plateau des Glières, Carlos Rodriguez gives a nice gift to the British squadron by taking home partial success. The battle for the general classification was spectacular with a Primoz Roglic tired but still managed to take home the final success for a few seconds.

Nine fugitives animated the first phase of the race: Bart Lemmen (Visma-Lease a Bike), Marc Soler, Tim Wellens (UAE Team Emirates), Sean Quinn (EF Education-Easypost), Bruno Armirail (Decathlon Ag2R La Difesa), Guillaume Martin (Cofidis), David Gaudu (Groupama -FDJ), Eduardo Sepulveda (Lotto-Dstny) and Omar Fraile (Ineos-Grenadiers). Lorenzo Fortunato was previously very active in search of points for the GPM (he took home the ranking).

Subsequently in group the Ineos Grenadiers have taken charge of the race and gradually closed the gap that divided the platoon from the fugitives. Everything was obviously decided on the last ascent, the Col des Glieres: Giulio Ciccone (Trek-Segafredo) tried to inflame the situation immediately, but Bora-hansgrohe and especially Ineos subsequently left no room for the Abruzzo native.

He went on the attack Carlos Rodriguez who made the difference together with Matthew Jorgenson and Derek Gee, second and third respectively in the general classification, while Primoz Roglic surprisingly struggled losing contact. A very tough chase for the Slovenian, who remained together with Ciccone, forced to arduously resist the attacks.

Rodriguez took the partial victory at the end, while Jorgenson, second, for 8″ he didn’t take Roglic’s shirt offsixth at the finish line just ahead of Ciccone.
