The 2024 Tour of Switzerland also has to deal with bad weather in the mountains. While summer is now beginning to appear, there is still snow at high altitudes and the organization of the Swiss race is thus forced to modify the main stage. Due to heavy snowfall, the Nufenen Pass (Nufenen Pass) is still impassable and the stage scheduled for Friday 14 June will necessarily have to change route. To connect Locarno to Blatten-Belalp, new solutions will therefore be needed, with the organizers currently evaluating two alternative options together with the authorities of the cantons of Valais, Ticino and Uri.
The first option is to start from Locarno to maintain the same arrival using the San Gottardo and Furka passes, while the second option involves shortening the stage which would then start from Ulrichen. A decision will inevitably be made within a short time. It should be noted that the GPM, which with its 2421 meters was the peak of this edition, was also supposed to award the Gino Mader Prize, which at this point will be moved to the new highest peak, which however remains to be defined based on the possible change of path.
