A way to redeem yourself. Giorgio Minisini will live with a particular spirit European artistic swimming championships, which will be staged from 10 to 14 June in the Belgrade pool (Serbia). The Golden Boy of dancing in the pool will be among the stars of a continental event which, by broadening its focus to all the water sports specialties involved, will inevitably suffer from absences due to the proximity to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Already, the Games in which Minisini will not take part. As is known, the Five Circles program does not include mixed doubles and men’s singles, but the Italian could have participated in the team event, which obtained Olympic qualification in the last World Championships in Doha. However, the Technical Director, Patrizia Giallombardomade a different decision.
“Unfortunately, the IOC has not included mixed doubles in the Olympic program and the regulations allow only 8 athletes to be called up plus a reserve to swim the technical, free and acrobatic team exercises. This involves difficult choices. It will be necessary to have athletes in top condition available, who perform the three routines with even higher coefficients than in the recent past, avoiding penalties (basemark) that are crucial for scoring and ranking purposes. Minisini is an excellent singles and mixed doubles specialist. His season will continue with the European Championships in Belgrade and the aim of extending the streak of successes that made him an example for the international movement“, Giallombardo’s words.
A bitter pill to swallow, to transform tears into smiles: “I accept the decision. I understand the reasons that lead technical director Giallombardo to make this choice. I will continue to work to improve. I remain available to the national team. The next goal is to confirm myself at the European Championships, win and fuel my dreams and those of other artistic swimmers“, Minisini’s reaction after the aforementioned exclusion.
