Charles Leclerc wins the 2024 Monaco GP after two failed attempts, dominating the entire race weekend

MONTECARLO (MONACO) – The third time is the good one. Charles Leclerc finally triumphs on his home streets and makes the Monaco Grand Prix valid for the championship Formula 1 2024preceding the McLaren of Oscar Piastri and the other Ferrari of Carlos Sainz.

Starting from pole position – as had already happened to him in 2021 and 2022 – this time Leclerc manages to cross the finish line first under the checkered flag, for what is the sixth victory of his career, breaking an almost two-year fast (Austria 2022 the latest success). A double celebration for Leclerc who brings a citizen of the Principality back to the top step of his home GP after 93 years (before him only Louis Chiron had succeeded in 1931) but who in reality becomes the only Monegasque to win the GP of Monaco in the era of modern Formula 1 (born with the first world championship in 1950).

First success of the season for the Monegasque, the second for Ferrari, which with Sainz’s third place gained important points from a Constructors’ World Championship perspective. A conquest not to be taken for granted because Sainz’s points could have been lost due to the red flag that interrupted the race a few meters after the start, with the Spaniard forced to stop his car due to a puncture and slipping to 16th position.

MANUAL START AND PERFECT RACE, THUS LECLERC WINS THE 2024 MONACO GP

Forced stop of the race which occurred during the first lap, due to the accident involving the Red Bull of Sergio Perez and the Haas of Kevin Magnussen and Nico Hulkenberg, with the Mexican’s car extremely damaged and obviously forced to retire together with those of the other two. From the restart which took place with the original grid order, the two Ferraris managed to go all the way without making pit stops, with the other McLaren of Lando Norris finishing in fourth position.

The Mercedes of George Russell and Lewis Hamilton follow, in fifth and seventh place respectively, separated by the Red Bull of Max Verstappen who only finishes sixth, while Yuki Tsunoda (Racing Bulls), Alexander Albon (Williams) and Pierre Gasly (Alpine) take the last points available at the end of the top ten.
