Second row for the leader Jorge Martin, in the front row Bagnaia and Binder, fourth Acosta, fifth Diggia. Synchronized crash in Q2 for the Pramac riders
May 25, 2024
“Hey man you make us look bad!” she said yesterday Pedro Acosta to Aleix Espargaro. And Aleix is continuing to make his colleagues look bad: pole and record for the Aprilia rider.
1.38.192 it is the new limit on the Montmelò track.
To the second place there is Pecco Bagnaia: the world champion appeared fast throughout the round and has good pace (as Aleix and Pedro Acosta also have).
Third place For Raul Fernandez: the Trackhouse driver, a few minutes after the end of Q2, was given a time again and so here he is on the front row.
Fourth place for Brad Binder and fifth for Pedro Acosta.
From the sixth to the 12th: Diggia (arrived from Q1 with the track record time, a record that lasted about ten minutes), Martin, Rins, Miller, Morbidelli, Bastianini and Vinales.
In Q2 they crashed in sync at turn 2 Martin and Morbidelli: shift over, harmless crash, riders ok.
Bagnaia did well, Martin less so, Marquez badly
THEThe world champion appeared focused and aware of what needed to be done. He remained on pole until the end, when Aleix passed him.
After qualifying he is destined for two top races.
Part in second row instead the championship leader Martin: the Pramac rider, while pushing, fell at turn 2, ruining his turn. Starting sixth isn’t that dramatic anyway.
Among the ranking drivers they are called upon to make a spectacular start Bastianini (11th), Vinales (12th) and especially Marc Marquez (14th). For the number 93 it is the worst qualifying in Ducati, after the 13th place in Le Mans. Yesterday he said that this track, together with Qatar, Malaysia and Indonesia, is among those he likes least.
Annotations
– first 12 bikes: 3 Aprilias, 5 Ducatis, 3 KTMs and 1 Yamaha
– the good qualification of Rinseighth
– to Bastianini a time was taken away which would have earned him ninth position anyway
– Viñales he was nervous throughout Q2, complaining, from his gestures, of problems with the front, as if it were closing on him
– Diggia he did a great Q1 with 1.38.203, track record for 10 minutes, then in Q2 he did 1.38.400 which earned him sixth place. By the time of Q1 he would have left second
– Acosta in FP2 he almost did a race simulation with a session of 17 consecutive laps. He has excellent pace, he can win
– Japanese: Rins eighth, Quarararo 17th, Zarco 18th, Nakagami 20th, Mir 21st, Marini 22nd and Bradl 23rd
– Bezzecchi still in difficulty, starts 16th
– Augusto Fernandez and Miguel Oliveira, respectively, the only KTM and Aprilia out of Q1
