In the Swiss 250, Nole lost in 3 sets (6-4 0-6 6-1) to the Czech Machac, n.44 in the world. He will show up in Paris without a win in 2024. The Italian goes out in the semi-final beaten by the Argentine Etcheverry 6-2 6-4

Another bad defeat for Novak Djokovic, who fails to reach a final in this very difficult 2024 for him, not even in the ATP 250 in Geneva. The world number one was defeated in the semi-final by the Czech Machac, world number 44, in three sets (6-4 0-6 6-1), but this isn’t even the real problem. The Serbian is a very distant relative of the wonderful tennis player of even just a few months ago, especially on a mental level. The number one on the pitch often appears distracted, without a tactical logic, the very one who thanks to all this has built his empire over the years.

emblem

The emblem of his moment is the first set: everything seemed easy, 4-1 ahead without any problems, then the inexplicable collapse, with Machac playing five games in a row, winning the set 6-4. Djokovic put the towel over his head several times, almost as if he wanted to hide. Then came the angry reaction in the second set, driven by pride, with a 6-0 that seemed to put the pieces of the match back in place, but it was an illusion. In the third, more mistakes after mistakes, wrong choices, nervousness, and a 6-1 that gives Machac the Geneva final, against one of our Flavio Cobolli and Casper Ruud, on the pitch to follow. Djokovic arrives really badly in Paris, where he defends his title and number one, but at this point this probably doesn’t even matter that much to the winner of 24 slams: he needs to find himself, first of all, and the road is getting harder and harder.

Lyon

In Lyon, however, nothing to do for Luciano Darderi. The Italian was defeated in the semi-final by the Argentine Tomas Etcheverry in two sets, a 6-2 6-4 without discussion. It wasn’t one of the best performances from the Italian, one of the most consistent on clay this year. Etcheverry was simply better and more consistent in this match, especially in the first set. In the second the Argentine did well to keep Darderi at bay, who was gaining strength, but not enough to break the score and reopen the match, which ended with a break from the South American.
