In the last Imola GP the reliability alarms went off for the Maranello Power Unit. Despite this, Leclerc clarified the Ferrari Power Unit and had his say on the difference with McLaren and Red Bull.

In today’s press conference, one of the topics on which Charles Leclerc was questioned is the Power Unit, which in Imola caused some alarmism. An alarm which, however, seems to have subsided, given that Leclerc has clarified the Ferrari Power Unit, also clarifying the first findings in the comparison with Red Bull and McLaren.

In the home GP for the red team, Leclerc was forced to mount the third unit, after having installed the second unit on his SF-24 in Miami. In the press conference, Leclerc said tried to calm things down, explaining that there is no cause for concern. Over the weekend the other issue was the gap with Red Bull and McLaren in electric power delivery. At the end of the race, the Monegasque put forward the hypothesis of a different energy strategy for McLaren and Red Bull.

“No, it’s not a worry,” said Leclerc in the media session of the Monaco GP when asked about the lack of performance of the Ferrari PU.

Obviously we saw that a little bit in the last race. We saw it in Jeddah too, but I think it’s more how we handle everything. It seems that in Imola Red Bull and McLaren had an advantage from their strategycommented. “We lost some time, so we checked.”

After calming the situation on the topic of electric power, Leclerc has had his say on the power unit’s influence on the Monte Carlo track. The principality’s track is renowned for not being very demanding in terms of power, given that it does not have the possibility of best express all its horses, but a large amount of power is still needed to exit the numerous slow corners of the track in the best possible way.

I don’t think it will make much of a difference here. The situation is very different. However, it can be useful for the rest of the season, so we have done a proper analysis on our part and I am sure we will grow from this.”
