There was a lot of fear, the images of the fall were frightening. In the sprint at the Vuelta Burgos Elisa Balsamo in the first stage she ended up on the ground flying against the barriers at very high speed and struggled to get up. Fortunately, the medical report was better than expected: for the Lombard girl she suffered a broken nose, a concussion and a broken finger.

The former world champion she underwent surgery yesterday in Milan and the surgery was successful. The nasal bones were seriously broken but Professor Federico Biglioli managed to fix everything with swabs. Elisa’s hand injury was also firmly fixed with a plate and screws, with the operation performed by Dr. Loris Pegoli.

Today Balsamo was discharged from the La Madonnina nursing home in Milan and was able to return home. An initial check-up is scheduled for Friday followed by a second Tuesday to remove the swabs from the nose and check the surgical wound on the hand. Additionally, a custom carbon brace will be fitted.

If everything goes well, in 7-10 days the very strong Italian sprinter will be able to return to training on the rollers, and then plan her training as best as possible towards the event of the year: the Paris Olympics.
