Ilkhan Dostiyev (Kazakhstan) triumphs at the finish line in Hotel Arłamów with a late attack, behind him the Luxembourger Arno Wallenborn and the Belgian Emiel Verstrynge.

Ilkhan Dostiyev – stage winner: “The stage was very tough, my teammates did a great job, I managed to attack on the last climb and win the race. This is an excellent result for my future, winning such a difficult race with such strong opponents gives me confidence.”

Pietro Mattio – KOM winner: “I tried to attack several times, I wanted to win a stage, but the group caught me six hundred meters from the finish line. The last 40 km were very difficult, but the stage suited my characteristics. I tried to sprint on the penultimate climb with other riders, we had a good gap but France and Switzerland came to catch us. But I am very happy to have managed to win the GPM jersey. I really liked the race because the tough course and the quality of the opponents allowed me to improve day after day. My next goal is the Giro Next Gen.”

Mathys Rondel – GC winner: “Today’s stage went well. We let the breakaway go because there were no riders who could be dangerous for the general classification, so we controlled it also thanks to the help of Spain and Luxembourg. Then we started the first lap of the circuit and it was quite challenging. We knew it would be hectic in that section, we were flat out again, but in a good position. Maybe it was a little stressful with the Kazakhs in front, but the Swiss did a great job and finally the last climb. I wasn’t scared, but in the end the gap to the third place in the GC closed a lot. In the end we did it, so we are very happy because we did a great job and we should be proud of it. This year I feel good and I want to try to win everywhere. I still have a lot of work to do, but I can’t wait for the next races to win again.”

Today’s stage took place entirely in the Carpathian Mountains. After starting from Lesko, Powiat Leski the runners faced 148 characterized by numerous ups and downs, before reaching the finish line in Hotel Arłamów. As usual, the first meters saw a succession of attacks up to km 30 where the day’s breakaway was formed, made up of: Eirik Aas (Norway), Edvin Lovidius (Sweden), Ramses Debruyne (Belgium), Filippo D’Aiuto (Italy), Sebastian Putz (Austria), Emry Faingezicht (Israel), Kacper Gieryk (TC Chrobry SCOTT Głogów) and Alfred Grenaae (Denmark). Following a short distance away are Aslan Silykbek (Kazakhstan), Maciej Banaszak (Mostostal Puławy) and Jack Brough (Great Britain) who after a short chase join the lead. At km 50 their lead was 1:15 over the French-led group.
Kacper Gieryk passes first at the Mountain Grand Prix of Hotel Arłamów, followed by Maciej Banaszak, Jack Brough and Sebastian Putz. In the following descent the group significantly reduces the disadvantage, and absorbs all the riders except the two Poles: Kacper Gieryk and Maciej Banaszak, who are joined by Daniel Vold. Germany subsequently takes control of the situation and takes the attackers back. Matthew Brennan – third in the general classification – sprints away, creating a 10-second gap on his rivals, but is caught by the group of about fifteen riders. The first to pass through the Kalwaria Pacławska GPM is Mathys Rondel. Along the descent several athletes manage to get back to the front of the race.
Seven kilometers from the finish line, six riders remain in the lead: Nils Aebersold, Ilkhan Dostiyev, Arno Wallenborn, Pietro Mattio, Samuel Fernandez and Emil Iwersen. Behind them, the Swiss take charge of the pursuit. On the descent Ilkhan Dostiyev takes the advantage and begins the final climb with a 25 second lead over Mattio and Wallenborn. The Kazakh manages to hold on and reach the finish line at Hotel Arłamów with his arms raised ahead of Arno Wallenborn and Emiel Verstrynge.

Mathys Rondel (FRA) wins the general classification with an advantage of 17 seconds over the pair formed by his compatriot Brieuc Rolland and the Luxembourger Arno Wallenborn.

Pietro Mattio (ITA) wins the jersey of best climber ahead of the Swiss Nils Aebersold and the Polish Julian Kot.

Belgium triumphs in the team classification ahead of Luxembourg and Switzerland.
