First direct comparison between the two, with the winner of the match facing the Danish Holger Rune, seeded number 10 in the Capitoline tournament, in the second round.
Nardi, a twenty-one year old from Pesaro of Campania origins, presents himself at this event almost a month after the unfortunate epilogue of the match in Bucharest with the Brazilian Seyboth Wild. After wasting 5 match points, the Italian suffered an ankle injury which forced him to stop for just over two weeks. Having risen to position number 81 in the ATP ranking, the Marche native will try to find his smile again against the imaginative German.
For his part, Altmaier, a twenty-five year old from Kempen, arrives at the Italian Internationals on the sidelines of the defeat in the first round of the Challenger in Cagliari. In Sardinia the German gave way to the Japanese Mochizuki a few days after the stop in the round of 32 of the Masters 1000 in Madrid. Season so far lacking in shocks for the ATP number 78, who last season incredibly surprised Jannik Sinner in the first round of Roland Garros.
