On Saturday at 3.30 pm and on Sunday at the Elia Longarini rugby field in Villa Potenza the Karma Girls team from Macerata will debut against Blue Crabs Falconara and Ura Ancona on the occasion of the MC 5’s Touch – Italian touch rugby trophy. Thus, women’s rugby returns to Macerata after two years, that is, since the now former players of Banca Macerata Rugby joined the regional franchise Spartan Queens Montegranaro of Serie A. The club felt the lack of an important pink quota and, on the initiative of some mini rugby mothers, there was the opportunity to form an amateur Touch Rugby team, a form of non-contact rugby that is less athletically demanding and more inclusive. The mayor Sandro Parcaroli, the councilors Riccardo Sacchi and Paolo Renna received representation from the team formed by Emanuele Panunti, sporting director of Banca Macerata Rugby and girls coach, by the players Sonia Sabbatini, Perla Mazzieri and Alessia Bitri. “A mother of two children from the mini and manager of the club – recalls Panunti – asked me if it was possible that she and other mothers could try touch rugby. Only a few seconds were enough to transform an idea into a beautiful project. In December eight mothers got involved, creating a great driving group that after four months has 16 members of all ages, whether they are university students, former players or curious people who wanted to try this experience”.
