It wasn’t a quiet weekend in the German fourth division. On the occasion of the match between Berliner FC Dynamo and Energie Cottbus (32nd round of the Regionalliga Northeast), riots among the fans caused over 150 officers to be injured.
Specifically, according to the authorities, 116 Berlin and federal police officers were injured by the gas, 28 police officers were attacked and 11 federal police officers were hit by pyrotechnics. So far, 74 suspects have been arrested. Furthermore, 62 criminal complaints were filed.

Iris Spranger, head of the Interior and Sport of the city-state of Berlin, wanted to spread a strong message of condemnation for the events that occurred. It questioned Dinamo Berlin, as well as the Berlin Football Federation and fan groups, regarding the serious disturbances: “The club must tell us now what it wants to do with its fans. It is taxpayers’ money that we had to use with 1,000 agents of police security personnel. During Saturday’s match there were riots among the blocks of fans. How much the entire operation cost, how the damage occurred to the stadium, who pays for it, how the fans want to deal with it in the future. ?”.

The match between Dynamo Berlin and Energie Cottbus was already considered high risk due to the great rivalry between the two clubs.
