The MotoGP Commission has launched the new regulations which will come into force in 2027 and which, MotoGP underlines, will make the sport safer, more sustainable and even more spectacular. The new bikes will be more efficient, with a view to global sustainability, and designed to create more intense competitions with even more overtaking. The main interventions will concern the engines, whose displacement will drop from 1000cc to 850cc, with the maximum bore going from 81 to 75 millimeters. This will lead to a drop in top speed and in general a limitation in terms of performance. The fuel from 2027 will be 100% sustainable, compared to the minimum 40% with which it has been racing since 2024, while the tanks will have a capacity of 20 liters, compared to the current 22, and 11 liters during the Sprint Race.

Important intervention on aerodynamics, which will be reduced and more closely controlled from 2027, with the aim of minimizing its negative effects and also controlling costs. Also from 2027, all ride-height and holeshot devices will be prohibited, those that allow you to lower the center of gravity of the motorbike at the start or in other particular points of the route to facilitate management of the vehicle. An abolition which, according to MotoGP, will favor the most skilled riders. Furthermore, to make the championship more balanced, the GPS data of all the drivers will be available to all the teams at the end of each session, giving the underperforming teams and drivers the opportunity to grow.

It adds to this that the current concession system introduced at the end of 2023 – divides the manufacturers into four bands, from A to D, allowing the less strong ones based on the results to carry out more interventions and tests on the motorcycles – will continue to remain in force but with of the technical regulatory changes starting from 2027, with all the manufacturers starting the season in band B. In the summer of 2027 they will be re-evaluated and will be able to move up or down in category to have access to more or fewer concessions.
