Mockery in the night. The Spaniard Carlos Sainz at the end of the Miami F1 GP, won by Lando Norris, was in fact penalized with 5 seconds on the race time and 1 point on the license for the collision that occurred with Oscar Piastri at turn 17. The sanction thus slides the Spaniard from Ferrari from 4th to 5th place in the order of arrival of the race.

the contact

In the contact, which occurred in the phases following the restart after the Safety Car, the Spaniard in a braking attack at Turn 17 on the Australian went slightly wide and in closing the trajectory he hit the front wing of the McLaren with his left rear wheel, causing him to stop in the pits which would then bring him to a 13th place finish.

the decision of the commissioners

The stewards justified the sanction by saying that without “the slight loss of control of the car, the collision probably would not have occurred, and the episode would have been a tough but fair duel”, adding that “The standard penalty is 10 seconds with 2 penalty points on the License, but that in light of these mitigating factors, we impose 5 seconds and 1 penalty point”. Sainz thus goes from 4th to 5th place in the GP and loses 2 points in the world rankings, being joined at 83 by Norris. Here is the updated and complete driver ranking.
