The weekend ends with the Miami Grand Prix, the sixth round of the 2024 Formula One World Championship. After the two intense days we witnessed yesterday, today will be the turn of the actual race which, at 10.00 pm Italian time (4.00 pm local time) will see the traffic lights go out.
What should we expect from the race on the track called Miami International Autodrome (which winds around the Hard Rock Stadium, home of the NFL’s Miami Dolphins)? The feeling is that, as always, everything seems set for yet another triumph for Max Verstappen. The Red Bull team bearer won the two previous editions and yesterday’s Sprint Race. Will yet another triumph come?
The RB20, for a change, seems perfectly designed for this track, combining excellent traction in the restart corners with excellent handling in the more ridden sections. Dthe usual Max Verstappen is on pole position (sixth start in pole out of six this season, but the first ever in Miami). The representative of the Red Bull team clocked an excellent 1:27.241, preceding Charles Leclerc by 141 thousandths, then Carlos Sainz by 214 and Sergio Perez by 219. Lando Norris was fifth at 353 thousandths, Oscar Piastri was sixth at 434, then the two Mercedes with George Russell and Lewis Hamilton were seventh and eighth.
Will it be a “Super Max” monologue again? The risk is high, but Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz will try everything from the start. Ferrari also seems to be in good shape on the Florida track (even without updates) and will try to impress. Behind the Maranello team and Red Bull, pay attention to McLaren which, despite many ups and downs, seems to have potential.
