Iga Swiatek, world number one, secured this Thursday her return to the final at the WTA 1000 in Madrid, Spain, a year after being a finalist in this tournament. It is the 11th final of this category in her career for the 22-year-old tennis player, who continues to consolidate her status as one of the best players of recent decades, despite her very young age.
In the semifinals, Swiatek, seeking her first Caja Mágica title, defeated the American Madison Keys, former top 10 and currently 20th in the world ranking, with a score of 6-1 6-3 in a 1 hour and 10 minute duel in which she always managed to be superior, despite the good resistance of the American tennis player, who played in Madrid his best week of the season. In the final, Iga Swiatek awaits the winner of the semifinal between the other two elements of the Big Three of women’s tennis: Aryna Sabalenka (2nd) and Elena Rybakina (4th).

The progress of the team stops at the quarter-finals Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori in the doubles draw of the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Madrid. The Italian pair, twelfth seeded in the tournament, were defeated by the American Sebastian Korda and from Australian Jordan Thompson with the score 7-6 (5) 6-4 after an hour and sixteen minutes of battle.
The first set was characterized by a lightning start from the Azzurri, who broke their opponents’ serve in the opening game. Bolelli and Vavassori maintained the lead until the eighth game, when they found themselves down 15-40. Although they managed to get back to 40-40, they had to give up the break at the decisive point, allowing Korda and Thompson to break the score at 4-4. In the twelfth game, the Italians faced three consecutive set points, but managed to cancel them with great determination, postponing the decision to the tiebreak.
The tiebreak proved to be a crucial moment of the match. With the score 5-4 in favor of Korda and Thompson, the US-Australian pair obtained the only minibreak of the set. Having risen to 6-4, they had two set points available, and on the second attempt (the fifth overall), they closed the set at 7-5 after 44 minutes of play.
In the second set, Bolelli and Vavassori were saved at the decisive point in the third game, but in the seventh they suffered a break that proved fatal. Korda and Thompson took the lead to 4-3 and managed the subsequent rounds of service with authority, not even conceding a fifteen to their opponents. The set ended at 6-4 after 32 minutes.
