On May 11th and 12th the Cuneo sports hall will host the Final Four of the Italian Cup of the A2 volleyball series. An important event for the city, which after the glories of the Lannutti era is once again enjoying the air of a great event in men’s volleyball.

There will be 4 clubs present at the two days of San Rocco Castagnaretta, which will be among the eight remaining in the competition: Cantù, Grottazzolina, Prata di Pordenone, Ravenna, Porto Viro, Brescia, Siena, as well as the hosts from Cuneo.

Obviously the hope of all the fans is to be able to see Matteo Battocchio’s team compete for the title, but first they have to overcome the obstacle of the quarter-finals which will see Puliservice Acqua S.Bernardo Cuneo once again opposing Porto Viro , already victorious during the playoffs.

The other intersections are Cantù-Grottazzolina, Prata di Pordenone-Ravenna and Brescia-Siena. It is played over two matches: in the event of a victory for each side (game 1 at the home of the worst ranked during the regular season) a Golden set is played.

Our march towards the event continues by meeting a series of characters who will follow the Final Four closely. Obviously supporting Cuneo. We asked them four questions, the same for everyone.

Today it is the turn of Matteo Gagliasso, regional councilor of the League. Born in Alba on 23 July 1993, he graduated in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic of Turin. Freelance, since 2017 he has been a real estate consultant for national and European companies. From 2012 to 2016 he was citizen coordinator for Savigliano (Cn) of the Padani Youth Movement. Since 2016 he has been coordinator for the Province of Cuneo of the Youth League and since 2018 organizational manager of the Piedmont Youth League

The Cuneo sports hall returns to host a high-class event in men’s volleyball. The A2 Serie Italian Cup represents an important event for the city, but also for the entire territory. What are your thoughts?

“The A2 Serie Italian Cup is a highly prestigious event for Cuneo and for the entire territory. It is an extraordinary opportunity to highlight the sporting excellence of our city and involve the community in the enthusiasm of men’s volleyball”.

The Cuneo team will try to be a protagonist, but will have to beat the competition from other renowned clubs: it will still be a sports celebration

“Exactly! Even if the competition will be fierce, with high-level teams, for us it will still be a celebration of sport. We will be there to give our best and make the fans experience unforgettable emotions, regardless of the final outcome“.

Volleyball has always represented the flagship sport of this area: what is its relationship with volleyball?

“Volleyball is in Cuneo’s DNA. It is a sport that we have in our hearts and which has a long tradition in our community. It is a passion that involves people of all ages and that unites the city in moments of joy and competition”.

After the abandonment of Piemonte Volley in 2014, a new company, made up of young people, is working and laying the foundations to bring the city of Cuneo back to the top men’s volleyball championship. What does an A1 series represent for the Cuneo area?

“The A1 Series would represent a triumphal return for Cuneo in the national panorama of men’s volleyball. It would be a sign of rebirth and growth for our territory, as well as an opportunity to attract attention to us and enhance our sporting resources. In recent years, Piedmont has been the protagonist of many high-level sporting occasions, this time too we will prove ourselves equal to the situation!”.
