Here are the times so you don’t miss the next GP on TV, the Miami Grand Prix, the sixth round of the 2024 Formula 1 season, as well as home to the second Sprint of the calendar

April 30, 2024

DOnce the China parenthesis is finally over and the week’s break is over, Formula 1 is ready to return to the track for the 2024 Miami Grand Prix, the sixth round of the season. For the first time this year, the Circus will race on American soil and, on this occasion, Scuderia Ferrari will celebrate seventy years of commercial relations with the Stars and Stripes state with a particular livery. The SF-24 of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc, in fact, will be dressed in two shades of blue, La Plata and Dino, which will also be repeated on the pilots’ suits and helmets. During this weekend the Sprint format will also be respected, with the Shootout qualifying on Friday after the first and only free practice session and the 100 km race on Saturday, followed by the traditional qualifying which will determine the starting grid of the Grand Prix on Sunday .

THEThe Miami track debuted on the Formula 1 calendar two years ago. In all the editions held so far, Max Verstappen has prevailed on the track. In 2022 it was an open battle with Ferrari’s single-seaters, especially Leclerc’s, but the Dutchman achieved victory without too many problems, just like last year, despite starting from the middle of the grid. The Maranello team will try to put a spoke in Red Bull’s wheels to redeem themselves from the anonymous race weekend in China. In fact, the layout of the Miami track is very similar to that of Albert Park in Australia, where Carlos Sainz achieved victory by taking the Monegasque behind him in second position, sealing the first one-two for the Red Team since the 2022 Bahrain Grand Prix. Furthermore, the track located in the parking lot of the Miami Dolphins stadium will also be a testing ground for the blue-tinted SF-24. The expected high temperatures will in fact put a strain on the durability of the tyres, Ferrari’s Achilles’ heel last year, which in the first rounds demonstrated that it had a competitive race pace, so much so that it was far behind its direct rivals (excluding China): McLaren, Mercedes and Aston Martin. However, the situation in Maranello was reversed; what were once their flagship, i.e. the qualifications, have become their weak point.

Lhe challenge in the United States will be played over 57 laps, to be completed on the Miami International Autodrome, measuring 5.412 km in length. The track record, 1’29″406, was set in 2023 by Max Verstappen, on a Red Bull RB19.

CAs we have seen in China, the Miami Grand Prix weekend will be the second event of the season to have the sprint formatwhich has been revisited, or rather improved, compared to 2023. The activity on the track will begin on Friday with the first free practice session which will start at 6.30pm, Italian time. Afterwards it will already be time for qualifications Shootout (10.30pm) which will determine the starting grid of the 100 km short race. Saturday will start at 6pm with the Sprint which will anticipate the qualifications for the long race at 10pm. The traffic lights of Chinese Grand Prix they will turn off at 10pm. What will change compared to last year will be the Parc Fermé which will not be closed directly after FP1 but before qualifying, and will then be reopened until the start of the timed session on Saturday as happens in the remaining race weekends.
