It was hardly seen Marc Marquez rejoice for a second place. Certainly he has never appeared so happy as when he achieved second place in the race MotoGP in Spain and celebrated between jumps and dances. Marquez had already said it in the winter: after such difficult years, it is important to go back to having fun before even winning. The Spanish GP is going in this direction: “It was a very important race for me. It’s a shame that I lost positions at the start, but I felt like the old days.” As he speaks, the Spaniard points to the black streak left on his suit by the front tire of Bagnaia’s Ducati during their duel: “It’s the beauty of racing.” Returning to challenge for victory, to be challenged and feared by a highly rated rival: this is Marquez’s mission as he comes closer to achieving his goal. Marquez wasn’t having an easy time. In both the long race in Austin and the Sprint in Jerez, the Spaniard crashed while in the lead. Two crashes which, in fact, left a small mark on Marc’s confidence, as he admitted to Sky: “I did the first five laps stiff because I made two mistakes in the last races. And so I also did something wrong at the start. I told myself to stay calm until 15 laps from the end. Then, when I pushed, I felt good. After Austin, we needed a race like this.” Marquez didn’t win just because he found himself facing a monumental Bagnaia. But Marc has no regrets as explained to Sky: “I was expecting Pecco’s response at turn 9. I had to overtake him within two laps because otherwise the temperature would have risen.” Marc pays homage to his rival: “he has experience and confidence with this bike, he is the reference in the Ducati group”.

With the fall of Jorge Martin, the world championship shortened. Marquez, sixth, sees the top 32 points away. Many, but not too many. Is the eighth title really possible? The Gresini Ducati rider explains: “I’m looking at how it goes from circuit to circuit. There will be tracks where we’ll struggle. Little by little I’m going stronger and stronger. Tomorrow I’ll have an important test. The Gresini team is working well. Ducati helps me.” And he concludes: “This start to the World Championship hasn’t been good: too many crashes. Yet I’m not far from the leaders.”
