Nothing to do for IES MVTomei who surrendered in the tie-break against Sestese. Fifth defeat in the fifth set of the year for the red and white team. Down by a set, the Labronici are good at overturning the score, then unfortunately they suffer the visitors’ comeback, with coach Marchi’s sextet able to celebrate the mathematical salvation.

Locali on the pitch with Cipriani opposite Giacomo Poli, Lupo and Ian Poli in the back, Grassini and Verdecchia in the centre, Papini libero. The guests respond with Catalano opposite Corti, Della Volpe and Nuti in the starting line-up, Giacomelli and Bruni in the centre, Ceccherini libero.

Slow start for Livorno: Cipriani struggles to put the ball on the ground,

the home attack is saved with Ian Poli, constant (45%) in place four. First break for the guests at 6-8, Catalano stings from place two and serves while captain Della Volpe is a safety behind. The IES, however, does not want to disfigure itself in front of the friendly public of Palatomei and mends the margin (17-19). Coach Marchi then plays Ammannati on serve and on dribble the Badii card for Corti and, following yet another error by Cipriani in attack, Sesto takes the first set.

Upon returning to the pitch, the first break this time is for the locals (8-6), with the showman Ian Poli serving the ace for the maximum advantage (14-10). On the other side of the net, batting shifts are always very treacherous

Catalano who brings his team back to -1 (14-13), but it is once again Ian Poli who takes his team by the hand bringing them to 19-15 and 22-17. In the final, a good turn of service by Cipriani allows the home team to equalize the match.

While on the one hand the Fire Brigade team can count on the safety of Grassini in the centre, deadly in the early stages, his colleague from the Florentine department is Giacomelli who is a real loose cannon in attack. Cipriani continues the good moment that began in the first set and Verdecchia scores the +2 (9-7). The guests were ahead 6-1 in the fourth quarter with Bruni from nine metres, a brief comeback for the locals with Cipriani who scored -1, but it was just a flash in the pan. Sesto flies to 13-20 first and then to 16-22, the final inertia does not change and at 2-2 the match reaches a tie-break.

Fiorentini ahead by two points at the change of court, Catalano still manages to sting his serve, while Grassini tries to keep Livorno’s flame of hope alive (12-12). In the final, however, the decisive sprint is placed by the opposing team who takes the two points up for grabs.
