Aosta Valley cyclists at the GiroSardegna 2024

In the suggestive scenery of Sardinia, among the breathtaking views, the cycling race took place GiroSardinia 2024, an event that combines the passion for cycling with the beauty of the places and the convivial atmosphere among the participants. In the week from 20 to 26 April, among the cyclists who distinguished themselves in this challenge, some athletes from the Aosta Valley also stand out.

The competition, starting from Marina of Orosei (NU)was divided into stages of different difficulty and length and saw the participation of cyclists from different age groups and experience levels.

Among the protagonists of route of the MedioGirodedicated to stages of medium difficulty, we find Diego Marana of the GS Team Benato, Bruno Vitton Mea of the GS Fire Brigade Godioz e Alessandra Plat of the GS Acquile. Marana took 55th place overall and 3rd place in the category in the M7 category and Vitton Mea took 123rd place overall with the victory in the M10 category. In the female ranking, however, Plat achieved an excellent 15th place overall and 4th place in the W1 category.

In the GranGiro route, reserved for more demanding stages, several Aosta Valley cyclists took the start. For the GS Team Benato team departing Dino Boverod, Roberto Pirana And Lorenzo Cancian. For ASD Velo Gressan at the start Stefano Castiglion And Andrea Dallago.

On April 21st, the 1st stage of 138km created some difficulties for Lorenzo Cancian and Stefano Castiglion who were forced to withdraw due to bicycle problems. However, in the following days they were able to complete the next stages.

The second stage included a 20km individual time trial, the third stage was 110km with a difference in altitude of 1209m, and the 4th stage of 117km with a difference in altitude of 1694m started on 24 April.

The day of April 25th, however, was dedicated to world of Gravel and on the rest day for participants in the Medium and Grand Tours.

Stage, however, of high level with Philip Agostinacchio who proudly represented Valle d’Aosta but wearing the shirt of the Italian national team. The young man, born in 2003, despite an unfortunate fall during the race, finished the three laps of the course (km 147.89 – altitude difference 1,939 m) valid in the 2024 UCI Gravel World Seriescrossing the finish line at 4th place in the elite categoryshowing great determination.
Another cyclist from Aosta Valley, Diego Maranadistinguished himself in the master category, in the two-lap route (106.86 km – 1,328 m altitude difference), finishing first 2nd place overall in the M60-64 categorythus earning the pass for i Gravel World Championships which will take place in Belgium on 5 and 6 October.

Finally, on April 26th, the last stage for everyone and all uphill, with only 42.82km but with a height difference of 1110m, the climb to Genna Silana was defined as a “long but never difficult” race.

Despite the strong wind and not the best temperatures that have characterized the whole week, the final ranking saw Dino Boverod emerge as the best among the Valle d’Aosta in the GranGiro, taking 121st place overall and 1st place in the category in the M9. They follow Roberto Pirana at 127th and Lorenzo Cancian in 149th place, respectively in 4th and 6th place in the category in the M8. Stephen Castiglion he finished 152nd overall and 15th in the M7 category; while Andrea Dallago he ranked 164th overall and 22nd in the M6 ​​category.
