Rugby – Innocenti’s sandcastle begins to give way

Rugby – Innocenti’s sandcastle begins to give way
Descriptive text here

All as expected: the Federal Council blocked the relegations of the Elite A series and the second National series. For details, please refer to the press release issued late yesterday evening which you can find here. We want to focus on a hilarious passage from the released document and it is the following:

“The determination was made by the governing body of Italian rugby at the conclusion of an in-depth process of consultations and discussions with the clubs and the main stakeholders, with the aim of guaranteeing the movement the best competition opportunities and the maximum coherence with the federal technical project”.

Reading this sentence we came to the conclusion that Innocenti no longer has connections with the real world. According to what we read, the passage of the Elite to 10 teams is the result of a sharing with the clubs but, as we wrote to you here, the clubs had asked for 12 with other proposals, currently ignored. But we await (without too much optimism) an information circular and statement on the structure of the championships for the next sports season. Meanwhile, once again Marzio Innocenti passes off his decision as the result of sharing. While it remains an autonomous choice and in defiance of the true will of the club.

We have been denouncing this way of doing things for some time: decisions made from above without listening to the clubs. But those who sow the wind reap the storm and companies are starting to abandon them. We have had many signs in recent weeks, but now the episodes have become concrete.

The first is Lombardy. As already explained, the President of the Fir accompanied Minister Abodi on the construction site of the new Cernusco plant. The very president would have liked to take advantage of the moment for a new rally for the companies. And so in the previous days an invitation went out to all the companies in the Milanese hinterland. Result: only three people were present plus Cernusco. Vancini, president of the Committee and future Councilor candidate at Innocenti quota, is already questioning his candidacy.

The nervousness is starting to be palpable if it is true, as it is true, that yesterday the president even insulted the president of Viadana Arletti and with him all the presidents who put money into the Elite championship, their own.

Everyone knows it who was happy yesterday before the start of the match against Colorno, who heard Innocenti raise his tone (as often happens to him lately – evidently the catwalks with honorifics and cotillons delivered personally and souvenir photos don’t relax him) and define presidents as excellent entrepreneurs and company managers, only to then define them as morons when they talk about rugby. Arletti evidently didn’t take it well (being called a moron in rugby terms doesn’t please anyone, even less those who put their own money into a rugby club and into the movement), he left him on the spot and didn’t even want to watch the match with him. Ulisse Gamboa had to do the honors of the house.

But it doesn’t end there, because we understand that Innocenti and, therefore, Luisi, are in a big crisis in Lazio where many clubs would have turned their backs on the current governance. The electoral campaign has not yet come into full swing and Innocenti is having the ability to exclude himself. Is the effectiveness of the strategy of those who are building the alternative of “keeping the candidate hidden” starting to emerge?
