Wednesday 22 May promises to be one of the most anticipated days of the 2024 Giro d’Italia. Friends of OA Sport, mark the date, because the battle in the Alps could be pitched. The following day there will be the interlocutory stage of the third week, i 159 km from Selva di Val Gardena to Passo Brocon instead they will arrive after another decidedly demanding fraction.
PATH
The classic alpine stage in the middle of the third week, with 5 GPM to face and very little plain for the caravan. Short section (159 km) but very explosive and with a lot of altitude difference, which presents difficulties right from the start. Get ready and go and you will immediately climb the Sella Pass (8.9 km at 7.4%), which has the first ramps with peaks at 11% and a central section at a constant 8%, before flattening out slightly in the last kilometres. From the top of the hill there is a long descent that crosses the entire Val di Fassa, until you reach Predazzo where you will start climbing again towards the legendary Passo Rolle. There are 20 kilometers of climb with an average gradient of 4.8%, but it is a climb in sections with long stretches in double figures both at the beginning and towards the top. Long and technical descent until passing in rapid succession Passo Gobbera (5.7 km at 6%) and a first passage on Passo Brocon (15.4 km at 5.6%, with the central section almost always in double figures), descent up Catello Tesino and ascent from the hardest (and new) side of Val Malene to Passo Brocon for the arrival. The last two thousand meters are very difficult (average 12%), with narrow and close hairpin bends.
