Phere is Bagnaia he is obviously disappointed with the outcome of the Sprint race in Jerez but, despite the disappointment, he does not lose his optimism and confidence in his abilities: “The wheel will turn” he said and then he was confident in Sunday’s race: the pace is good and if he manages to make a good start he could fight to win.

In the meantime, however, the ranking speaks of fifth place, 50 points, 42 points behind Martin.

On the downfalls of this start of the season…

“Out of seven races in two I ended up on the ground due to a contact, not the best start to the season. But the wheel turns for everyone and it will turn for us too”

How did you see the contact with Binder? The stewards said it was a racing accident…

“They do this for a living, they may be right, but in my opinion a rider cannot overtake two others on the curb, there was no space. It ended as it ended, I did two laps. There were at least four contacts before mine, the strategy was a little beyond the limit”

At the beginning of last year the sprints seemed very dangerous, then the situation seemed to have eased…

“Well we’re back at a track where last year there were two red flags, these are the tracks that lead you to this, this one is narrow, slow corners, they lead you to have more contact”

For the short time you were on the track, did you understand what goal you could aim for?

“Yes, I was fifth and I was faster than the riders in front, I was understanding when to attack but I didn’t have time. In certain situations you struggle to attack because the riders make strange lines, overtaking in the sprint is not calculated, you throw yourself in and at the maximum you touch the other rider, this is the strategy, it’s difficult to manage”

On qualifying and seventh place…

“They didn’t go too well, when it started to dry out I struggled more, however I was fifth in the race, close to the group, it allows you to fight to win, but you have to have the chance”

Tomorrow?

“We need to start better, try to pass others, immediately remove ourselves from the animalistic struggle that is created in that phase. My pace is good enough to be able to think about winning”

TO Sky sports MotoGP Bagnaia said: “Pecco Bagnaia: “Binder’s vein stopped when he was overtaken by Marquez, he threw himself to try to overtake both me and Bezzecchi. I was in the middle and it went badly for me. Sprint brings drivers to go crazy: sometimes someone changes direction at random, sometimes it turns out to your advantage because you manage to overtake those who make mistakes, other times it goes badly.”

“In my opinion, with a strategy like in a normal race, you can still do well. Binder’s overtaking on Marquez for example it didn’t make sense and in fact he lost 3 positions. Tomorrow should be dry, tomorrow there shouldn’t be any wet patches, the feeling with the bike was excellent, we changed a few things. I went back to last year’s fork already in Austin, I can turn the bike as I want” she concluded.
