Stelvio distant, but tough last climb

Stelvio distant, but tough last climb
Descriptive text here

Our journey to discover the stages of the Giro d’Italia 2024 continues. Twenty-one days in which he will try to compete with Tadej Pogacar, absolute favorite of this edition, the pink jersey and the Trofeo Senza Fine. The third and final week of the race begins with the Livigno-Santa Cristina Val Gardena of 202 kilometres, fraction of a real mountain with four stars of difficulty.

PATH

It practically starts uphill, with Eira Pass and Foscagno Pass in the first eleven and a half kilometers. Long descent and, immediately after Bormio, it immediately arrives Stelvio, Cima Coppi of this edition with its 2758 meters of altitude. A now historic climb, of almost 20 kilometers at 7.5% and with a maximum peak of 15% around the ninth kilometre. The gradients are not impossible and the climb is far from the finish line, but its length and the thin air at the top could cause havoc.

It reaches the top of the hill at kilometer 53.4, then from there it is practically downhill and a bit flat until after the flying finish line in Bolzano. We arrive at Pinei Pass, another nice long climb of 23.3 kilometers at 4.7%; first stretch of 7 kilometers at an average 7% followed by a long slight slope up to Siusi. After 3 fairly calm kilometers up to Castelrotto, the climb becomes more aggressive again in the last 5 kilometres, even reaching 15%. But there’s room for a crackling finish on the Monte Pana, which leads to the finish line: from Ortisei to the bridge there are four kilometers that are quite pedalable, but once you enter the last two kilometers you reach an average of 12%, preceded by a ramp of 16%.
