At the age of 44, Ruben Douglas, hero of L’Aquila fortitudina’s second scudetto, won in 2005 against Milan in what later went down in history as the instant replay tricolor, passed away. The news appeared on the Bologna club’s website: it was communicated by brother Ramon who lives in the USA. Ruben passed away a few days ago following a sudden illness, perhaps due to a liver complication, in Costa Rica where he lived.

Douglas had played only one season in Fortitudo, in 2004-2005, culminating with the title following an incredible final. On 21 June 2005, in the decisive match at the Forum, Ruben fired a triple at the siren and after several, interminable minutes of video, the referees decided that the shot was good and the blue and white celebration exploded for the second tricolour.
