The Tutor on the motorway is a method much feared by travellers, and today we will reveal how to understand if it is active.

Speed limits in Italy are strictly controlled, and there is not only the classic speed camera to try to slow down the pace of drivers. Indeed, the Safety Tutor was introduced in 2004i.e. a system that is used to calculate the average speed of cars, motorbikes and all the various types of vehicles that travel on our highways.

Initially, it was only used on a very limited number of arteries, in order to carry out some tests and understand whether it could be functional or not. Later, its use was approved and today Tutors are present on almost all the highways in our country. In the next lines, we will give you some tips to find out how you can understand if they are active or not.

Tutor, so you can never make mistakes

On the website “Sicurauto.it“, some interesting explanations were provided on how the Tutors work, but above all, on how to understand whether the devices are active or not. Well, to find out if they are active or not you need to read the official map, which today was last updated on March 29th. In recent months, 10 new routes have been added in which the average speed is calculated, and this is why we need to be even more careful than in the past.

In total, the Tutor is present for 176 routes, for a total of 1,670 km of travel which can be controlled using this system. Why should we try to respect the average speed limit? The answer is very simple, since there are very high fines, starting from 42 to 173 euros for those who exceed less than 10 km/h.

However, it should be specified that if you go beyond this threshold, in addition to losing several points on your license, there is a serious risk of running into much more expensive financial penalties, which due to inflation have seen a further increase in recent years.

In fact, for a limit exceeded by a figure between 10 and 40 km/h you run into a fine of between 173 and 695 euros, plus a deduction of 3 points on your driving license. The maximum you can get is a fine of 3,389 euros if you exceed the limit of 60 km/hto which also add the cancellation of 10 points on the driving license, and these are numbers which obviously also concern exceeding the limits in the sections controlled by the Tutor.

As mentioned, you need to consult the official map on the Italian motorway website to find out which ones are active, reminding you that on the arteries there are still conspicuous signs inviting you to respect the limits, as average speed controls are required in those sections. At this point, we hope that you will be able to inform yourself as best you can before travelling, and that you will be careful to respect the limits.
