THE MONTES CUP SPEAKS SLOVENIAN WITH JAKOB OMRZEL

JUNIORS | 04/26/2024 | 07:59

April 25th of great tradition in Monfalcone (Go), where the 69th edition of the Montes Cup. The race, organized by the Provincial Gs Anpi in collaboration with Ciclistica Pieris and the support of BCC Venezia Giulia, Assicoop FVG, Legacoop FVG and Coop Alleanza 3.0, saw 103 junior athletes at the start who put on a show along the 107 kilometers scheduled.

In the first 50 kilometers of the race the peloton travels almost compactly despite some attempts which liven up the news of the day without leaving their mark on the fate of the Montes Cup for 2024. The brawl then breaks out on the ramps leading towards San Michele del Carso: to impose the forcing is Jakob Omrzel (Adria Mobil). When the Slovenian champion accelerates on his wheel, only six of them resist. Thus the group of the best of the day is formed which, in addition to the winner of the Paris-Roubaix Juniores, also includes Fabio Segatta (Us Montecorona), David Zanutta (Team Tiepolo), Andrea Bessega (Borgo Molino Vigna Fiorita), Cristian Remelli, Pierluigi Garbi and Alessio Magagnotti (Autozai Contri).

As soon as the road goes up again, on the most important slopes of Poggio III Armata, Jakob Omrzel extends again and, this time, manages to literally make a gap, gaining a maximum lead of one minute on his immediate pursuers. The finale is all Slovenian with Omrzel traveling quickly towards the finish line while behind him we fight and study to award the less precious medals. The day ends with the catwalk of honor with the public in Via Valentinis, in Monfalcone, who give the star Jakob Omrzel a proper round of applause. Behind the winner, the sprint smiles on Pierluigi Garbi and Alessio Magagnotti who thus complete a podium of great value.
