Formula 1, the market goes crazy. Newey away from Red Bull. Hulkenberg returns to Sauber

Let’s start with the official news: on the morning of April 26th, in rapid succession, the press releases from Haas GP first and from Kick Sauber then they announced the return of Nico Hulkenberg in the Swiss team. The German veteran will return to racing for the Hinwil team starting next season, a place he knows well having already competed for Sauber in 2013 among other things with excellent results. Hulk will be directly involved in the development of the 2026 single-seater of the team which will become the Audi F1 Team in two years, under the guidance of team principal Andreas Seidl.

GENIUS ON THE MARKET And, speaking of development, the transfer news of the month (and not of the year only because it was preceded by that of Lewis Hamilton’s hiring by Ferrari) is that of Adrian Newey’s imminent farewell to Red Bull. The creator of all the winning single-seaters of the Austrian team will have a change of scenery and, perhaps, already during this season to get to work as soon as possible with his new team. yeah, but what will it be? The idea that everyone is having is that Maranello’s decades-long courtship of the Stratford-upon-Avon genius has finally produced the desired results, but this is not necessarily the case.

WHERE WILL HE GO? Away from Milton Keynes (Red Bull) there are other shores where Newey could land, starting with the English ones very close to his home (since, until now, Ferrari’s offers had always been rejected due to the desire to stay and work near his family in England), and therefore Mercedes (German but based in Brackley), McLaren (in Woking), Aston Martin (in Silverstone), Williams (in Grove) and Alpine (French but based in Enstone). Among the names mentioned, the portfolio to convince Newey is mainly available to Mercedes and Aston Martin, especially the latter with Lawrence Stroll which could make a great gift to Alonso, fresh from renewal with the house of James Bond. We’ll see, the announcement certainly won’t come too far in time, given the 6 months of gardening leave mandatory before we can start working on the new generation cars that will debut in 2026.
