His fans thought so when faced with his exploits, everyone thinks so when faced with the recovery skills that the Belgian is demonstrating after an injury that would have knocked out any “mortal” for months. Less than a month after that terrible fall at Dwars door Vlaanderen, the champion of Visma-Lease a Bike he’s back in the saddle.
Despite fractured ribs, sternum and collarbone, the Flemish rider is determined to forge ahead and return as soon as possible to the very high levels to which the public has become accustomed. His absence at the Giro d’Italia is now certain, but the last word has not yet been said for the Tour de France, even more so if his captain Jonas Vingegaard should he not be able to get back into shape in time.
Meanwhile, the Dutch team celebrated the positive signs coming from van Aert’s recovery with a video on social media that cannot help but warm the hearts of fans.
