A small, very Italian Piaggio Vespa has achieved the impossible with an exceptional rider. The little scooter has literally broken the record, it’s difficult to do better!
With the necessary proportions we can say that a break a record with a supercar or superbike “they are all good”! The records that arouse the most admiration among enthusiasts, in fact and not by chance, are those obtained on board vehicles that were not at all created to challenge the laws of physics or speed records on circuits and tracks all over the world. A bit like what we’re talking about today.
If we think of the small Piaggio Vespa they will come to mind a couple of firsts: certainly, we have before us one of the best-selling motorcycles in the history of the globe, one of the best-known scooters in the world as well as one of the nicest vehicles on the planet – even if this is not a quantifiable record – but we are certainly not talking about one of the strongest, fastest or most practical vehicles in the world. Yet, we must not underestimate the Italian vehicle and its drivers!
Right on board a motorbike like this in fact, a Vespa enthusiast famous for similar feats has pulverized a truly impressive record. What was done on the track unequivocally demonstrates the stubbornness of the rider and above all the resistance of the small local scooter. We can certainly be proud, as Italians of course, of what happened recently in Spain.
Distance record with the Vespa for Valerio Boni
The name of the Vespa rider originally from Brembate in Lombardy, Valerio Boni, it is certainly already known to those who experience the passion for the small Piaggio scooter as a real craze. The 65-year-old Italian has been famous since 1979 when, as a motoring journalist, he began breaking a series of endurance records on his Vespa.
Despite already having several endurance records obtained certainly not on board a modified vehicle but of the classic Vespa with a 50 cc engine that we have all driven or ridden on at least once, Boni went to Terramar in Spain on 6 March this year on a local circuit to break a truly absurd record.
With courage and resistance Boni he remained astride the vehicle for 24 hours straight as if he were racing Le Mans totaling the beauty of 1,233,075 traveled in the space of a day aboard the Vespa, which gives him the absolute record of kilometers traveled in a day aboard a Vespa in the world. An impressive record which cost him an impressive 615 consecutive laps and which surpassed the record of Mark Brown by just 305 kilometres, a rider who however used a more modern Vespa. But no one can beat the classic fifty!
