Forward, but in small steps, with the project of the golf course on the Daine terrace, in Nago, which was adapted by the architect Luca Borzaga, following indications from the Province, due to the discovery of vestiges of the First World War. “These are – explains Roberto De Laurentis, as president of “Alto Garda Golf Srl” -, courses delimited by lattices and walkways, which will have to be enhanced within the 18-hole course and will tell a piece of local history to all the people who will play in this unique environment.” But environmentalists, through the voice of Marco Piantoni, exponent of Europa Verde Alto Garda and Ledro, are already putting their foot down and rejecting the idea regardless.

The project by architect Luca Borzaga, president of Golf Trentino and Golf Dolomiti di Sarnonico, is worth around 10 million euros. “Last week we were in Trento, in the offices of Trentino Sviluppo, to address the issue of the findings and discuss Borzaga’s new project, which will undergo a slight shift compared to the first design – explains De Laurentis – Those vestiges, as requested by the cultural heritage, will be enhanced and will make the golf course even more attractive and will lead to an increase in tourist reception”.
The final project is still in progress, explains president De Laurentis, but confirms that the Alto Garda Golf Srl group firmly believes in the idea of creating an 18-hole course. And the town and the people of Nago are also asking for it. “When the Loppio-Busa connection tunnel is completed, Nago will be completely cut off from the tourist flow – says the President of the sports group – but if you had a golf course, the houses and properties do not lose value on the market. And above all it would bring tourism that was decidedly different from what we find at the Policromuro, it would not eat on site, bringing things from home, leaving rubbish on the ground and doing business on the road to the Almighty. Let’s be clear, the environment is completely different. I believe in the outdoors, it is right to invest in this formula, but we must start raising the bar for the type of tourists who arrive in Alto Garda Trentino. We live in a wonderful area and the tourism of the future will have to veer towards quality.”

Every year Alto Garda Trentino pours a river of money into the coffers of the Province, “we are the area with the highest GDP production in Trentino – explains De Laurentis – around us there are numerous golf courses, in Rendena there ‘is in Bocenago and Campo Carlo Magno, in Pergine there is the Black Point, in Roncegno there is a nine-hole golf course, like at the Farfalla in Cinte Tesino, there is the one in Folgaria, there is the Dolomiti, while Alto Garda has no real golf course, excluding the small one owned by the Santorum family and the driving range on the Alto Garda Golf state road. If we then go down to the lower lake, in 30/40 kilometres, we have 8 18-hole courses”.

As regards financing, De Laurentis is moving on several levels, asking for the intervention of Trentino Marketing and Apt Garda Dolomiti, with a small investment share”.
The definitive and executive project is not yet reality, “it will still take some time”, but the will of president De Laurentis and of the entire Alto Garda Golf srl group is to make it a reality. To also give Alto Garda Trentino a new attractive center, both for residents and quality tourists.

For environmentalists, however, the golf project in Nago is an absurd idea. Marco Piantoni, exponent of Europa Verde Alto Garda and Ledro, rejects the idea of building a golf course around the war relics, in addition to the fact that it would ruin the harmony of the surrounding landscape, characterized by elements of great naturalistic value and species indigenous.
