“Berrettini instead of Sinner in Australia? I admit it, I thought about it”
Descriptive text here

After the great work done alongside Matteo Berrettini sublimated by the final of Wimbledon, Vincenzo Santopadre has decided to embark on a new challenge. Last October the closure after thirteen seasons with the Roman tennis player and now the new student: the young man Luca Van Assche. The 19-year-old Frenchman will be followed by the Italian coach who spoke about his future prospects on the Punto de Break website from the ATP 500 in Barcelona. Holy Father tells: “We started in Rotterdam, Doha and Dubai. Then he went to America with Yannick, his historic coach since he was 9 years old, so we split the weeks in two. They had spoken to me about Luca with great affection and the truth is that it’s like this, both he and his coach are very good people, he has a family with values. It’s a pleasure for me to help him, he has many things that I like, starting with the fact that he works a lot and listens a lot I liked the project.”

All about tennis

Santopadre: “Van Assche has great qualities”

These are the words of Holy Father on Van Assche: “He is a very strong defender, but he can do everything. He has a very good backhand, he can play on the counterattack, he can apply pressure, it is very interesting when you have so many variations. Not all players have this quality, but now he is in a phase where he is developing as a professional, he is still very young. We have no goals other than to improve his level of play, even if it is already very high. He has practically just arrived on the professional circuit, he has to see how he works, but his level it’s not something that worries me. Maybe he doesn’t earn many free points with the serve, but he knows how to build points, he has great timing. What will happen over the years? For me he is a complete player, in 2-3 years he will be able to compete on all surfacesthe. Now his game is more suitable for clay in certain aspects but, if he continues on this path, if he continues to improve from a technical-tactical point of view, he will end up becoming an all-rounder. He’s a very rational boy, very calm. It’s true that people expect a lot from him, with Luca there is a great expectation, but it’s normal when you are one of the best young players in the world. He does not yet have the qualities of an Alcaraz, but he is still very young, he will turn 20 in May. He must be calm, but the circuit puts pressure on you and rushes you with the whole question of points and tournaments. Within the team we are aware that it takes time, the results will come.

Santopadre and the growth of Italian tennis

France in search of its new tennis phenomenon: “The last few years have been great for them, now they have Luca, Arthur Fils, Arthur Cazaux, etc. There is a lot of attention from French tennis on these guys, obviously they suffer this type of pressure, even if I don’t know exactly how much. It’s part of the game, knowing how to manage these situations is also linked to mentality”, while in Italy we are experiencing a golden moment: “It’s incredible, everyone asks me this question. How is it possible that, after a not so great period, we are now so good? To begin with, this doesn’t happen overnight, there is a system behind it where everyone the parties involved have done their partn this moment, Italy is the country everyone looks to to understand how we do it. This is a source of pride, it is good for them to come forward and ask. Obviously it seems to me that we have an excellent model: there are tournaments, there are coaches and there is a lot of training. There are many things that work, now what we Italians must do is continue to work, be happy to live in this moment, but look ahead to see if we can do a little more, without losing ambition. All this is incredible, but we have so many players and so many tournaments. If we can do this for 6-7 years, then that would be the best we can aspire to.
