The results of the free practice
In the only free practice session the fastest was Lance Stroll, who on Friday morning preceded Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen. The Ferraris and Mercedes were late and hid. McLaren performed much better than expected, perhaps Norris bluffed on the eve.
F1 GP China, Ferrari of Leclerc and Sainz chasing pole
Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz are still without pole positions for now, but they still have the chance to achieve it in Shanghai where Ferrari feels and is competitive. The Spanish driver is confident and wants to try to surprise Verstappen, author of all four pole positions at the start of the 2024 World Championship.
The characteristics of the Shanghai circuit for the GP in China
The Shanghai circuit was part of the Formula 1 World Championship for fifteen years, but for the last four it has been excluded from the calendar, for many drivers it will be an absolute novelty. The track is 5.451 km long and is unchanged with 16 corners, with a combination of slow and fast corners, and two main straights where overtaking is possible. Very demanding circuit for the braking system.
