This is a story (yet another) of how non-news can turn into (apparent) reality and how two people, and coincidentally in particular a woman, can be exposed to the usual, unacceptable digital pillory. On the one hand there are those who reconstructed the story without seeking the slightest verification and on the other those who took it at face value and took inspiration from it to pour out on social media an avalanche of insults or unacceptable criticism regardless and in this case specific without any basis.
The reference is to the video and photo that are circulating the web and which they portray Fiorentina coach Vincenzo Italiano approaches Sky journalist Vanessa Leonardi (busy as a correspondent on the sidelines during the match between the Viola and Viktoria Plzen) to say something in her ear after the goal with which Nico Gonzalez broke the deadlock.
This is where the misunderstanding arises: in fact, many, thanks to the hood that covered Leonardi’s face (it was a particularly cold evening in Florence) and among these also a commentator, they talked about a “kiss” or “little peck” which in reality never happened. Simply, according to what was leaked by the protagonists (a version also confirmed by other people close to the two at the time of the incident) Italiano went to her to comment from a technical point of view what had just happened on the field. An attitude that the coach usually maintains, and it would be enough to ask the sidelines who closely follow Fiorentina’s matches on a weekly basis to tell him about it.
However, a hood and an ambiguous image were enough to trigger the case and for Vanessa Leonardi (when we talk about chauvinism it is facts like this that we are referring to) to be attacked on her social profiles. The Sky journalist prefers her part avoid any type of comment and, obviously sorry and affected by what happened, she hopes that the matter will end up forgotten as soon as possible and that it will not be further “exploited”.
A more than understandable reaction, for a woman who, with her usual professionalism, was simply doing her job and who instead found herself at the center of a story that confirms once again how dangerous irresponsible use of the web and how much more needs to be done in Italy to erase what is evidently much more than a residue of chauvinism.
In the evening, Fiorentina also came out with a note to deny: «There was no kiss, there was nothing at all – this is what the club says – Nothing happened except just an exchange of words after Gonzalez’s goal, the Sky journalist was the closest person at that moment.”
