If the Giallorossi or Nerazzurri won the Europa League without finishing the championship in the top four positions, the extra place for Serie A would still be assigned
After having acquired the right to the fifth team in the 2024/25 Champions League with the performances on the field, with the new single-group format, Italian football can dream of also having a sixth participant in the most important club competition at continental level. In addition to the four places assigned with the championship placement, in fact, if one of Roma and Atalanta were to fail to reach fourth place in Serie A and at the same time triumph in the Europa League – and therefore qualify for the Champions League in that way -, it would open up a place for the best placed team in the championship among those excluded.
A significant detail and reported in the competition regulations at point 3.07 where it is explained that the seasonal ranking in the European cups gives a bonus place in the Champions League next regardless, without following the progress of the national championships.
With Roma or Atalanta winning in the Europa League but outside the top four positionsTherefore, Italy could qualify four teams for the 2024/25 Champions League through the championship, the winner of the Europa League and the sixth as a bonus UEFA ranking.
Even the Italian teams in Europe for the 2024-25 season it could become ten if the conditions listed above to which is added the Conference League victory for Fiorentina who should always finish outside the top eight. At that point Serie A would have: the top five qualified for the Champions League together with the winner of the Europa League (6), sixth and seventh in the Europa League together with Florentine (3), eighth in the Conference League.
