Five years later the F1 Circus returns to China. The Covid-19 pandemic forced the organizers not to take the Shanghai circuit into consideration in the calendar, but the return will take place next weekend (19-21 April), the fifth of the 2024 World Cup. Ferrari comes to this event with the desire to do well, on a particular weekend for the first Sprint Race of the year which will upset the canonical format.

Charles Leclerc, from this point of view, is ready for the challenge. Third in the general classification, the Monegasque Ferrari driver is looking for his first victory of the season, after demonstrating excellent consistency in the race in Japan, but not as effective in qualifying. The pieces of the puzzle will have to be put together to try to annoy the Red Bull and especially Dutch Max Verstappen.

We arrive here in China with confidence, given the start of our season. On paper, the track might be better suited to Ferrari than Suzuka, but I expect Red Bull to still have something more. However, we must exclusively focus on ourselves“, Leclerc said at the press conference, presenting the Chinese event in a Ferrari key.

In terms of race pace we have shown that we are strong this year, but let’s see how it goes here. It’s been a while since we last drove“, concluded Leclerc. It should be remembered that, due to the presence of the Sprint, there will only be one free practice session and this will clearly complicate things quite a bit in finding the ideal set-up of the car.
