The analysis of Mr. Marco Baroni’s last match of 2025 between forced initial choices and on-the-fly changes that had no impact

Test of maturity failed by Torino and Marco Barons. There was talk of logic after the victories obtained in rapid succession without conceding a goal against Cremonese and above all Sassuolo. Logic was not lacking even against Cagliari, especially in the starting eleven. Baroni had his hands tied, he proposed the Reggio Emilia team again with a single variant for 10/11: Simeone forward alongside Adams. So far, so good. The match immediately appeared balanced, Torino had the ability to break the deadlock with the usual Vlasic. Then, however, the defensive gaps that have been highlighted so many times this season emerged. The first goal is highly avoidable and derives from a marking error (does anyone remember the disaster in Parma with two goals scored in the same way because Vlasic was chosen for marking?), the second is instead the result of too much carelessness. Moral of the story: Torino let themselves be caught and overtaken at home by a team on the inferior card like Cagliari. The real problems came after the Sardinian 2-1. The grenades melted like snow in the sun and staged a reaction that was far too timid.

All in anonymity: 2025 for Torino and Baroni ends like this

In the end, Torino lacked a bit of everything: order, fury and contribution from the bench. Yes, we must also include the contribution of the bench because the substitutes added nothing to Torino and the match slipped away on ideal tracks for Cagliari. It must be said that the substitutions also followed their own logic, so it is difficult to pin something specifically on Baroni, unlike other matches in which the decisions appeared bizarre and without real sense. Just after the goal conceded, Zapata was brought on with Nkounkou replacing Adams and Lazaro; another 10 minutes and Ngonge was put on for Asslani. Finally, in the 80th minute, there was room for Ilkhan and Aboukhlal for Gineitis and Pedersen. Nothing so surprising, apart from the inclusion of Ilkhan who was the real loose cannon of Torino’s first round and whose management would require a specific manual. Yet none of the changes really had an impact. Ilkhan was probably the best. In other words, Torino without determination in the last quarter of the match came out empty-handed and ended an anonymous 2025 in a negative way which risks transforming Baroni’s management into anonymity too.
