Borsa Italiana closes 2025 at new highs: capitalization over 1,000 billion and record trading


(Teleborsa) – Il 2025 ends as one of the most solid and dynamic years for Bag Italianconfirming a structural strengthening of the stock and bond markets, intense trading activity and a growing role of innovative and ESG instruments. This is what emerges from the annual summary released by Euronextwhich photographs a deeper, more liquid and international financial system.

As of December 30, 2025, the total number of listed companies on the Borsa Italiana markets it is equal to 411of which 199 on Euronext Milan (62 in the STAR segment) and 212 on Euronext Growth Milan. They were registered during the year 21 new admissionsi, all on Euronext Growth Milan, with a total collection of approximately 124 million euros. To these are added 13 capital increases under option for approx 1.5 billion euros e 23 Opa for a total value of approximately 2.2 billion.

The capitalization total number of listed companies reached i 1,042 billion euros as of December 29, equal to 47.2% of GDP. Stock trading marked a marked increase: the average daily equivalent value stood at 3.5 billion euros (+31.1% compared to 2024), with over 370 thousand average contracts per day (+22.8%). This is the highest level since the 2007-2008 financial crisis. Overall, over 93 million contracts were traded for a value of more than 868 billion euros. Unicredit confirms itself as the most traded stock of the year, with over 91 billion euros in value.

On the front of the indexes2025 was particularly favorable: the FTSE MIB closed with a rise of 30%, the best performance since 2000, while the FTSE Italia All Share also recorded a +30%. The performance of the FTSE Italia Growth was positive, albeit more limited (+8%).

Il market bond confirmed its European leadership in terms of number of contracts traded on AGAINSTwith 1,727 listed instruments. In 2025, major distributions were made government bond issuesincluding BTP Valore, BTP Italia and BTP Più, with almost 40 billion euros raised and over one million contracts in the placement phases. The bond repatriation process is also significant: between November 2024 and December 2025, issuance programs for over 180 billion euros were brought back to Italy, as well as new issues for around 13 billion, mostly ESG.

In 2025 MTS saw robust volume growth, with the interdealer cash market up 43.7% and BondVision up 60%. The spread BTP-Bund it remained in the 70 basis point area in the last quarter, with the 10-year yield between 3.50% and 3.60%.

ETFplus set new records, with over 2,200 listed instruments and assets under management amounting to 184.6 billion euros. The average daily turnover reached historic highs of 609 million euros. The development of certificates is also strong, with over 33,000 listed instruments and a double-digit increase in contracts and average daily values.
