In this very complicated story of espionage and misfortune, the questions rather than decrease increase. For example: the boat sunk on Sunday evening in Lake Maggiore hosted, together with the Israeli secret agents of the Mossad, the Italian ones of the Aise, the‘Government agency that by operating methodsunlike Aisi, searches for information and carries out national security activities outside the borders. Instead, the agents were right here. in Lombardy and Piedmont. Why? That navigation on a “house-boat”, a houseboat guided by the skipper Claudio Carminati, had landed in the morning on the Isola dei Pescatori, one of the Borromean islands, opposite on the coast from Stresa to Verbania never as in recent months populated by Russians — tycoons, launderers, Putinians, anti-Putinians, double agents, spies — who invest with suspicious capital in extra-luxury hotels and historic villas.
The starred restaurant
The agents had lunch in the starred restaurant “Il Verbano”. With casual attire made up of sneakers, jeans, polo shirts or T-shirts, the women and men of the Services, 21 in total, were not alone: in the club they sat other people of no obvious identification unless they were “attentioned” earlier, as the majority of customers hadn’t booked, and if they had, they could very well have used a fake name, so no one would have checked. Also Isola dei Pescatori was crowded and therefore subject to observations by the Services, but perhaps an objective element remains: such a high number of units would be difficult if a mission was really underway. However, at least in the days before the massacre (four dead, all drowned), there was. Indeed there may have been more than one, within an expedition orchestrated by the Mossad with the natural support of the Italian hosts, or perhaps commissioned by other foreign secret services (such as the American ones?)but certainly linked to the presence of the couple represented by Claudius Carminatiskipper, investigated by the Public Prosecutor of Busto Arsizio as responsible for the disaster, and by his wife Anna Bozhkovadied with Tiziana Barnobi and Claudio Alonziaged 53 and 62, and the Israeli Shimoni Erezalso 53 years old.
Retired agent
In this regard, assuming they told the truth, the Mossad leaders immediately communicated that Erez was retired. But since he had been aggregated to operational colleagues, there is necessarily a reason, perhaps linked to his experience, perhaps to his excellent knowledge of the Italian language, perhaps to previous trips to these parts. However, we were talking about Carminati and poor Anna, who didn’t know how to swim: the latter enjoyed an unlimited time residence permit and her knowledge of Russian could be useful for hypothetical translations and conversations with compatriots, while the skipper is one of those valuable local intelligence contacts. One peculiarity: our search yielded no results by entering Carminati’s name in the cadastral data network. Nothing binds him to a territory, neither in Italy nor abroadwhere he would have lived for a long time having learned French and Bulgarian well.
The capacity of the boat
A 60-year-old man (wife was 10 younger) accustomed to leaving no trace yet capable of solving any practical problem when activated, especially in logistics to continue with the means of transport. After that, of course, the investigations of the substitute Massimo De Filippo will tend to remain limited to the massacre, not to his side of secret agents; however, this does not remove the investigative obligation to inspect the hull once it is transferred to the shores of Sesto Calende (a crane and more days will be needed). The boat was licensed for 15 people but there were 23 of them; no one hypothesizes anything other than the dynamics caused by a storm, but the appropriate expertise will be needed. Will the investigators discover elements of greatest interest on board? This question is perhaps distant from reality, but the curtain of silence that has been spreading since Sunday evening obliges us to cultivate, more than ever, any doubt, however legitimate.
