Sinisa Mihajlovic’s light wooden coffin arrives in Piazza del Campidoglio for the mortuary shortly after 9.30, with the whole Mihajlovic family waiting for it: his wife Arianna, his children, his mother Viktorija, his brother Drazen, composed and petrified . and friend – former teammate, collaborator and deputy – Miroslav Tanjga. Then the body of the champion killed on Friday by leukemia against which he fought in vain for three years is brought to the Sala della Protomoteca in the Campidoglio. And the flow of Romans, more and less known, begins for a last farewell.
The coffin is almost submerged in white flowers, to the sides the family does not stop staring at it, while the public passes by: many leave scarves, especially from Lazio, a man has written a letter, immediately picked up and read by one of the Mihajlovic girls, almost arrives in tears Luciano Spalletti. The Napoli coach spent 45 minutes in front of his friend’s coffin, sitting next to the coach’s family members in strict silence. Then Ignatius LaRussa: he embraces Arianna, who still has the strength to smile at him. «Sinisa is a fighter – comments the president of the Senate – you have been from the first day to the last. You took free kicks against opposing goals but also against life’s adversities, and they were always winning kicks. I have many memories that tie me to him: the first club where he established himself as a coach, after a small interlude, was Catania – my second team – and then he was at Inter as a player. He started out as a footballer at Inter and ended up as a coach at Catania: it was one more way to feel him close to me. But I believe that today he is close to sportsmen, whatever their football faith, because man has surpassed the sportsman”.
It’s still Paul Trancassini, Lazio coordinator of FdI and the president of Lazio Claud Lotito, who delivers to the family shirts with the name Mihajlovic printed on them.
Dozens of scarves that fans of Lazio, Bologna, Turin, Sampdoria and Milan left on the coffin of the Serbian champion, surrounded by some wreaths sent by SS Lazio, AS Roma, FIFA and another sent directly by the FIFA president Gianni Infantino. There are also many Roma supporters.
