After seven hours the autopsies were completed. The Spallanzani hospital in Rome has announced that Gianni De Vita, the father of 15-year-old Sara and husband of Antonella Di Ielsi, has been transferred to an ordinary ward.

He was transferred from the intensive care unit to an ordinary ward Gianni Di Vitathe father of the 15-year-old Sara and husband of Antonella Di Ielsi, 50, death a few hours later due to suspected food poisoning. The deaths, for which five doctors are being investigated as a matter of course, occurred between Saturday and Sunday at the Cardarelli hospital in Campobasso. This is made known bySpallanzani Instituteexplaining that the decision was taken “given the favorable evolution of the clinical picture”. “Father and daughter – specifies Spallanzani – continue to be duly assisted by the medical team and supported by the Institute’s team of psychologists”. The man had also shown the same symptoms as the two family members, all living in Pietracatella (Campobasso), and had been hospitalized for suspected food poisoning. Initially he was transported to Cardarelli, before being transferred to the hospital in the capital.

The investigations: the autopsies concluded
Meanwhile in Campobasso, the autopsies on the bodies of the two women, which began at the Cardarelli morgue this morning, concluded after seven hours to clarify the possible triggering agent. «From the autopsy no immediate cognitive elements emerged». Thus the prosecutor of the Republic of Campobasso, Nicola D’Angeloat the end of the unrepeatable assessment. It was therefore not yet possible to establish a cause of death. «At the moment it is possible to speak in generic terms of one food poisoning», he added the pathologist Marco Di Paoloconsultant for the defense and the Di Vita family. According to what the expert explained, it would be two healthy peoplewho died following an event compatible with something ingested, but at present it is not possible to identify which substance or food may have caused the poisoning. “It cannot be said what it is about – it is reported – and it is not possible to exclude any hypothesis.” The prosecutor reiterated that to clarify the causes of the deaths it will be necessary to wait for the results of the chemical and toxicological tests, which will require longer technical times. It remains very remote, as often happens in this phase, but the hypothesis of poisoning by third parties is not excluded either. This is a residual lead, given the circumstances of the incident, but the Prosecutor’s Office does not exclude any possibility, not even that of murder.

The foods seized: from polenta to mushrooms
At the same time, investigations continue on the food seized from the family’s home in Pietracatella and on the reconstruction of meals consumed in the previous dayswith particular attention to the day of December 23rd, currently considered central in the investigative framework. Specifically, during the investigation, they are 19 foods seized. It is a preparation with mushrooms and peppers, green olives, black olives, meatballs, cheese with pistachio, cow’s milk mozzarella, tomato sauce, mushrooms presumably of the ‘pleurotus ostreatus’ type, clams cooked in shell, cod au gratin with pine nuts, grapes and potatoes, cake with sponge cake and pistachio cream, pesto, spreadable cheese, two different types of jam, polenta topped with mushrooms presumably champignon, two types of cheese spreadable, peasant-style mushrooms, self-produced giardiniera.
