“I find it very serious that there are members of the majority who fall for provocations, I predict that it will increase.” These were the words of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in the final conference of the G7, when asked about the brawl in the Chamber of Deputies in recent days, underlining that “not even this managed to ruin the excellent success of this summit”. Words that M5S leader Giuseppe Conte doesn’t agree with. It all started in Montecitorio, because the Five Star MP Leonardo Donno waved the tricolor in front of the Minister for Regional Affairs, Roberto Calderoli, inviting him to take the cloth. A move which, misinterpreted, provoked a reaction from some members of the majority who took to the center of the chamber to defend the Northern League representative. «We discovered that for Prime Minister Meloni to show an Italian flag in the Chamber and hand it over to a minister to say no to the Autonomy which is splitting the country is a “provocation”», declared Conte. «The Italian flag is never a provocation. It is our symbol that reminds us to be united. I would have expected an apology from those who lead a majority that attacks with unprecedented violence, with kicks and punches, an M5S parliamentarian in the middle of the Chamber”, finally added the former Prime Minister. «On Tuesday – he concluded – we will all wave the tricolor together in Rome. If for Meloni and his associates the Italian flag is a provocation then we will wave it louder.”
